In 2010, Doug's recieved a major renovation of the 150 year old building led by local craftsmen Roger Hefel and Jason Hefel of Hefel Construction. The original renovation plan included new kitchen and bathrooms, paint and cleaning. Several discoveries along the way have led to a much greater scope of work, including the discovery of the original cast iron architectural support on the front of the first level of the building. The facade had been buried under wood and brick installed many years ago, but left largely intact because it supports the building. The team removed the wood and brick to expose the architecture and the building front will be restored to its original design 12 foot high windows and a recessed entry door. Inside, a portion of the dining room will showcase the original height tin ceilings and crown molding, and original cement finished walls.

The result is a simply beautiful restaurant with great views of the Mississippi River. Doug's Pub & Grill is managed by the team of Guttenberg residents, Karilyn Smith, Shirley Vogt, and Tom Vogt The restaurant is now open Wednesday - Sunday's.  Friday's, Saturday's & Sunday's Doug's is open for lunch and offers a sandwich, appetizers and dessert menu at that time.
